ZD7 – Ham Station
The Ultimate location for a DXpedition vacation
About the QTH
Just the fact that you are here, means you are exploring the opportunities for a holiday in St Helena, or just having a look at our beautiful destination, we would love you to come and visit and bring the family, …but what if you are a ham radio operator also?… The owner of the business and Richards Travel Lodge is also a radio ham (ZD7CTO) and we understand full well how you would love to enjoy, even just a little ham radio during your visit, or if you are really serious all of your visit. “Ham” radio operators know ZD7 means St Helena Island in the middle of the south Atlantic renowned for its.
That’s why we have been busy designing our destination with you the radio ham in mind. Now you can come and visit, see this stunning Island, enjoy what we have to offer AND… also become a part of the DX.
About the shack
We have built a “shack” 20 meters from your room, currently equipped with the basic equipment, of a 100w transceiver, a hex beam antenna, several wire antennas on a 10-meter mast, and the opportunity to look across our lawns in the blue sea beyond, whilst the whole world is shouting for you. Richards Travel Lodge offers you excellent rooms on a property overlooking the sea to the north at 1500 feet above sea level. We are a great holiday stay for anyone, but for the ham, DX’ing is irresistible at a QTH where you can start your own pileup. If you live in a restricted neighborhood, have limited antennas, or just want to operate a great station from a fantastic location, St Helena and Richards Travel Lodge is your destination. The non-hams in your family or group will also thank you for their wonderful vacation in St Helena as they enjoy all things non-ham.
DX’ING FOR FUN! You don’t have to be a contester to enjoy operating in St Helena. Phone or CW, send a CQ and you’ll have all the QSO’s you want.
“DON’T JUST WORK DX–BE DX!”
We will help you arrange your local ZD7 license and callsign and you can enjoy the dx like the dx.
